Cyprus Olympic Committee achieves its goals in Mediterranean Beach Games

The Cypriot delegation of the Cyprus Olympic Committee to the 3rd Mediterranean Beach Games "Heraklion 2023", secured a Bronze Medal, ranking 14th out of the 26 participating countries. Denis Taradin won the bronze medal in Kiteboarding.

In addition, the 4th and 5th place of the Men's and Women's Beach Handball Teams are considered as great successes.

In the other sports, the 7th place of Rodolfos Rodolfou Andreou in open swimming as well as the 7th place in Women's Beach Volley with Erika Nystrom and Daria Gusarova considered as a good presence of the Cypriot athletes in the Gmes.

All the other athletes of the delegation gave their best, while the goal set by Cyprus Olympic Committee, which was to give the opportunity to as many athletes as possible to take part in major events and gain valuable experiences, was fulfilled.

In statements to the CNA after the completion of the Games, the Head of the Cypriot delegation Pavlos Georgiadis said that all members of the delegation, the team leaders, the coaches, the athletes and members of the Olympic Committee, had an impeccable presence at the Games. "We won a medal, we came close several times to other wins, and in general we had a good presence in the Mediterranean Beach Games," he said.

Asked to comment on the fact that Cyprus secured only one medal in the Games, Georgiadis said that although we may not have won the number of medals we wished or could, we achieved, as an Olympic Committee the target we set to give the opportunity to a great number of athletes, much more compared to previous Games, to compete and gain valuable experiences.

The Cypriot delegation consisted of 45 athletes, 25 men and 20 women, who competed in eight out of the thirteen sports of the Games from September 9 to 16, 2023. In total, about 700 athletes from 26 countries took part in the Games.
