‫ تستضيف شركة سينوبك Sinopec مؤتمر الأداء السنوي لسنة 2021، وتدعو إلى تبني التطور البيئي وخلق ميزات تنافسية منخفضة الكربون

بكين, 1 أبريل 2022 /PRNewswire/ الصين للبتروكيماويات (هونغ كونغ: 0386، “سينوبك Sinopec” أو “الشركة”)  استضافت مؤتمر الأداء السنوي لسنة2021 في 28 مارس في بكين عبر حلقات دراسية شبكية. وفقا للمعايير الدولية لإعداد التقارير المالية، بلغ حجم مبيعات سينوبك Sinopec لسنة 2021 وإيرادات تشغيل أخرى 2.74 تريليون يوان (431.50 مليار دولار أمريكي)، وبلغ الربح المنسوب إلى حملة أسهم الشركة 71.975 مليار يوان(11.33 مليار دولار أمريكي)، بنمو نسبته 115.2 في المائة في السنة. وكان هذا أفضل أداء تشغيلي لشركة سينوبك Sinopec في العقد الماضي.

Sinopec hosted its 2021 annual performance conference on Mar.28th, reporting its 2021 turnover and other operating income was CNY 2.74 trillion (USD 431.50 billion), with profit attributable to shareholders of the company reaching CNY 71.975 billion (USD 11.33 billion), a 115.2 percent growth year-on-year.

لتعزيز حركة التجارة الدولية… انطلاق فعاليات معرض كانتون في أبريل باستخدام تقنيات مبتكرة

CGTN: China steps up tree-planting efforts to reduce carbon emissions

BEIJING, March 31, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — China is intensifying efforts to plant trees nationwide as it strives to honor its pledges to peak carbon emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.

Chinese President Xi Jinping and other senior officials have taken the lead in afforestation. When attending a tree-planting activity in Beijing on Wednesday, Xi said forests have the capacity to conserve water, bring in economic benefits, boost grain production, and also serve well as a carbon sink.

Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, has participated in tree-planting activities for 10 consecutive years since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012.

‘Sow seeds of ecological conservation’

China designated March 12 as the National Tree-Planting Day in 1979. The National People’s Congress, China’s top legislature, launched a nationwide voluntary tree-planting campaign in 1981, stipulating that every able-bodied citizen above 11 should plant three to five trees each year.

“I want to do my bit for the Beautiful China initiative, and also to sow the seeds of ecological conservation in the entire society, among Chinese youth in particular,” Xi said during this year’s activity at an urban recreation park in Huangcun Town in Beijing’s Daxing District.

He planted saplings of Chinese pine, flowering peach, magnolia, crab apple and Chinese ash.

“With perseverance and accumulated efforts, we will be able to make our country’s sky bluer, mountains lusher, waters clearer and the environment more beautiful,” he said.

Describing forests as a “carbon sink,” Xi said forests and grasslands are of fundamental and strategic significance for the country’s ecological security.

He called for prioritizing ecological conservation and pursuing green development with a “holistic approach.”

“We will protect and manage our ecosystems involving mountains, rivers, forests, farmland, lakes, grasslands and deserts with a holistic approach, carry out greening programs systematically, and increase both quantity and quality of forest and grassland resources,” he said.

Forests’ role in carbon reduction

“Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets,” a notion raised by Xi, has become a guiding principle in China’s ecological conservation endeavors.

In recent years, China made pledges to peak emissions of carbon dioxide before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060. It also vows to advance the green transformation of the social and economic development, according to the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) and long-range objectives through 2035, the country’s latest development blueprint.

Afforestation plays a crucial role in turning these ideas into reality, as carbon sinks, like forests and grasslands, absorb and store carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

China’s forest coverage and forest reserves have both maintained growth for the last 30 years, and the country has realized the largest growth in forest resources among all countries, according to China’s white paper on biodiversity conservation released last October.

At the end of 2020, China’s forest area stood at 220 million hectares, with a forest coverage rate of 23 percent, and a forest carbon storage of 9.19 billion tonnes, according to the white paper.

In 2021, China planted 3.6 million hectares of forest and converted 380,800 hectares of farmland into forest, the National Forestry and Grassland Administration said in a bulletin on March 11. The country plans to plant 6.4 million hectares of trees and grass this year.

To support the increase of carbon sink capacity in the forestry sector, China Development Bank recently issued loans worth about 114.1 billion yuan (around $17.95 billion) to promote key ecological areas such as the national reserve forest construction and forest quality improvements.

The bank, one of the country’s primary policy banks, has supported the cultivation and maintenance of forests covering nearly four million hectares, which are expected to absorb 72 million tonnes of carbon per year after 2030.

Turkish president voices hope for possible Russia-Ukraine leaders’ summit in Istanbul

The Turkish president is hopeful that the leaders of Russia and Ukraine could hold a summit in Istanbul to help bring an end to the war between the two countries, he said on Friday.

“We’d be very happy if we could realize the decision to turn this negative course of events into a positive one with the two leaders,” Recep Tayyip Erdogan told reporters in Istanbul.

In a breakthrough, Russian and Ukrainian delegations met for peace talks in Istanbul on March 29 as the war entered its second month with casualties piling up on both sides.

During the talks, Ukrainian officials signaled readiness to negotiate a “neutral status,” a key Russian demand, but demanded security guarantees for their country.

Russia, meanwhile, pledged to significantly decrease its military activities toward the Ukrainian cities of Kyiv and Chernihiv to build up trust for future negotiations.

Ukraine wants to see countries, including Turkiye, as guarantors in a deal with Russia, a Ukrainian negotiator said after the talks.

Sea mines

On drifting sea mines in the Black Sea region, Erdogan said: “As of now, there is no problem, but we’re not going to let our guard down.”

Pope apologizes to Canada’s indigenous peoples for abuses in residential schools

Pope Francis on Friday apologized to the representatives of Canadian indigenous peoples for the abuses suffered by the students of church-run residential schools in Canada, local media reported on Friday.

“I ask for forgiveness from God for this reprehensible conduct by some members of the Church,” Francis told an audience with the indigenous and Canadian bishops, Italian news agency ANSA reported.

“I am very pained, I join Canadian bishops in asking forgiveness of you,” the agency quoted the pope as saying.

The pontiff also announced an upcoming visit to Canada. “See you in Canada where I will be able to better express to you my closeness.”

The meeting of three indigenous groups – Assembly of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit – with the pope was slated for December 2021 but was canceled due to the emerging omicron variant of the coronavirus.

The groups have the same goal: to get a papal apology for the Catholic Church’s role in running notorious Indian Residential Schools beginning in the 1820s through the 1990s when the last of 139 schools were closed.

Around 150,000 students were sent to the schools, at times taken from their families by force to eradicate the indigenous culture.

About 4,500 students died while some others were subjected to physical, sexual, and psychological abuse.

During the past year, more than 1,800 unmarked graves have been identified at various residential school sites across Canada.

About 60% were run by the Catholic Church and the rest by other Christian churches.

Apologies have been made by various individuals and groups representing the Catholic Church but Francis’ today’s remarks are the first by a pope.

European rights court orders sentence for France over detention of child

The European Court of Human Rights on Thursday handed down a sentence to France for involving in the detention of a child from Georgia in 2020.

The child, an eight-year-old girl, entered into France with her parents in 2019, with media reporting that the family had been detained in an administrative detention center in the eastern Metz-Queuleu region sometime thereafter for two weeks.

The court ruled that a detention period of 14 days was an “excessive” period and that a child of such a young age “cannot be considered as having sufficient discernment to understand the situation,” and that the situation placed her in “particular vulnerability.” The detention center in which the family was placed is next to a penitentiary center.

It also ordered France to pay a fine of €5,000 ($5,500) for “moral damages” to the minor.

The Strasbourg-based court further said that the authorities in this detention subjected the eight-year-old to treatment that exceeded the limit of severity provided for in Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which concerns the prohibition of inhuman and degrading treatment.

Germany approves shipment of armed vehicles to Ukraine: report

Germany has approved the delivery of nearly 60 armored combat vehicles to Ukraine, local media reported on Friday.

The government has granted the Czech Republic permission to transfer the infantry fighting vehicles of the type BMP-1, which were previously owned by Germany, according to daily Die Welt.

The armored vehicles will be delivered to Ukraine in the coming weeks following a technical inspection, said the daily.

The combat vehicles from the former East German army were passed on to Sweden at the end of the 1990s, and later sold to a company in the Czech Republic.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly called on European countries to supply heavy weapons, tanks and fighter jets to his country.

Germany had long resisted calls from the US and other allies to supply weapons to Ukraine, but reversed its long-standing policy following Russia’s military attack.
