Indonesia Ensures Strict Compliance with COVID-19 Protocol towards G20 Presidency

JAKARTA, Indonesia, March 14, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — On track to host the G20 summit in Bali on November 15-16, The Indonesia’s Ministry of Health is set to implement a strict health protocol system as a precaution against COVID-19. The system will serve as a guideline for every in-person activity during the summit.

The Indonesian G20 presidency’s overarching theme is “Recover Together, Recover Stronger,” encouraging all countries to work together to achieve a more sustainable world recovery as the global pandemic continues to affect all sectors of life.

Indonesian officials ensure strict screening upon arrival

“The bubble system is in line with the current global framework of pandemic prevention. It’s a travel corridor scheme which aims to limit risks of possible transmissions by separating those involved in the summit from the public at hotels, venues, and other supporting facilities for every event or meeting during and leading up to the summit,” said dr. Siti Nadia Tarmizi, M.Epid, official spokesperson of COVID-19 Vaccination, the Indonesia’s Ministry of Health.

Four separate bubbles will be established. The first bubble is for G20 country delegates, including their main entourages. The second bubble is for general G20 participants and journalists, with the third bubble prepared for the summit’s organizers and field officers. Finally, the fourth bubble is for all the operational and supporting staff involved in the summit’s day-to-day affairs.

Considering the infection rate decline, Middle East, African and European countries have loosen travelling restrictions, however, there is an uneven reach of vaccination between regions. Around 54% of Middle East are partially vaccinated, Africa only has over 253 million people vaccinated out of 1,3 billion total population and 68% of Europe has been partially vaccinated. Thus, each has its own restrictions.

Looking at this current situation, vaccination mandates, regular health checks, and COVID-19 screenings will be part of the measures during the G20 summit in Bali. Attendees must provide negative PCR test results taken a maximum of three days before their departure. During the summit, they also must undergo a daily antigen test or a once-every-three-day PCR test throughout their stay in the bubble system area.

About the Indonesian Ministry of Health

The Indonesian Ministry of Health is committed to providing quality health care to all people living in Indonesia, creating healthy, productive, and resilient communities across the nation. We strive for effective leadership in the health sector through health quality standards, policies, and legislation.

Australia hands over redeveloped Blackrock military training camp to Fiji

Australia handed over a multimillion-dollar renovated military training complex to Fiji in an opening ceremony on Monday.

The ceremony was held at the Blackrock Peacekeeping, Humanitarian, and Disaster Relief Camp at Votualevu in Nadi, Fiji, and was attended by archipelago’s Prime Minister Bainimarama and Australian Minister for International Development Zed Seselja, with Prime Minister Scott Morrison virtually present.

“This state-of-the-art facility will enhance Fiji’s peacekeeping and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief capacity, and ensure intent is matched with resources to meet the common challenges and security of our shared region,” Morrison said in a statement released by Prime Minister’s office.

“Blackrock Camp will now serve as a training and regional response hub for both disaster response and peacekeeping missions,” the Australian prime minister said.

Australia built the new facility at a cost of $100 million in 33 months.

Bainimarama thanked his Australian counterpart for helping the nation, adding that Blackrock would “also serve as the regional launching pad for joint deployments that put Fijian and Australian troops at the front line of the climate war raging throughout the Pacific.”

Australia sanctions 33 more Russian oligarchs

Australia on Monday joined its Western partners and announced fresh sanctions against 33 prominent Russian businessmen and their close relatives, official said.

The sanctions targeted figures who amassed vast personal wealth, as well as economic and strategic significance to Russia and have close ties with President Vladimir Putin, the office of Foreign Minister Marise Payne said in a statement.

Chelsea Football Club owner was among those hit by the sanctions, as were Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller, Rossiya Airlines Chairman Dmitri Lebedev, and head of defense conglomerate Rostec Sergey Chemezov.

Nikolay Tokarev, CEO of pipeline transport company Transneft, along with Vnesheconombank Chairman Igor Shuvalov and Russian Direct Investment Fund CEO Kirill Dmitriev were also on the sanctions list.

“We strongly support recent announcements by Canada, the European Union, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States of further restrictive measures against key Russian individuals,” said Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne.

Australia has so far imposed sanctions on 460 Russian individuals and entities, including a travel ban on President Vladimir Putin and other key civilian and military officials.

“We will continue to coordinate closely with our partners to impose a high cost on Russia for its actions,” said Payne.

Since Russia launched its war on Ukraine, more than 2.8 million people have fled to other countries, according to UN estimates.

At least 596 civilians have also been killed and 1,067 injured in Ukraine, it said.

While the EU, US and others have imposed sanctions on Moscow, many companies and global brands have also suspended operations in Russia.

Commodity prices pull back from last week’s record highs

Commodity prices have abated after surging to record highs amid profit taking and hopes for progress in peace talks between Russia and Ukraine last week.

The largest contributor to the price slump was the negotiations launched between Russia and Ukraine last Thursday on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in southern Turkiye in the hope of bringing an end to the war and easing supply worries.

Anadolu Agency was the global communication partner at the event.

The price of the wheat, after hitting a record $13.6350 per bushel on the Chicago Board of Trade, ended the week with an 8.4% loss.

Russia and Ukraine are both significant grain producers and exporters. The ongoing conflict has raised concerns of a possible grain shortage.

Noting that demand for wheat weakened after the price rises, analysts said Western sanctions had only a limited effect on wheat.

Palladium closed week with a 6.7% decrease after seeing a record-high $3,435 per ounce as 40% of global production is in Russia.

Last week, the prices of copper and platinum fell 4.6% and 4.5%, respectively. Thanks to the increase in copper production in China, prices later eased.

Nickel was a hot issue on the commodity market last week, with prices more than doubling to test $100,000 amid supply shortages and strengthening speculative transactions.

With the backing of geopolitical risks, the price of gold rose by 0.84% at the last week’s close.

After the US announced a ban on Russian oil, natural gas, and coal and the UK declared it would phase out these imports, the price of Brent oil jumped to $139 per barrel before ending the week with a 4.7% loss amid diplomatic steps and reports on new alternative suppliers.

The price of natural gas on the New York Stock Exchange also slipped by 4.9% at Friday’s close.

A mixed course was seen in agricultural commodities last week with cotton gaining 0.4% and cocoa 0.2%, while coffee lost 1.4% and sugar 0.5%.

The prices of corn and soybeans both went up by 1.1%.
