Barista trainer praises Turkish baristas

World-renowned barista trainer Michael de Renouard said he has not seen better quality coffee than in Turkiye as he heaped praise on Turkish baristas.

Renouard said he has been to many places across the world, including southeast Asia, Europe, and the Americas. “I don’t see higher quality (coffee) than in Turkiye,” he told Anadolu Agency.

He said anyone can have world-class coffee in Turkiye.

“If you are a good chef and you want to be the best restaurant in the world, you must have good ingredients. When you want to be the best coffee roastery, you must have the best coffee, and the tools are so important,” he said.

Renouard also said Turkiye has very high-quality coffee shops, stressing that the coffee and milk in the country are perfect as well.

Good coffee requires good roasters and good baristas, he noted, saying the roasters’ job is to not lose the quality of coffee beans from good farmers, and baristas have the responsibility to preserve the quality.

195 million-year-old megalodon fossils found in Turkiye

The fossils of extinct shark species megalodon that lived in the marine ecosystems 195 million years ago was discovered on the surface of a marble piece in a marble quarry in Turkiye’s Mediterranean resort city of Antalya.

Some workers, while mining in a marble quarry in Antalya’s Korkuteli district, found on the marble surface fossils of one of the largest sea creatures ever existed.

Later, geological engineer Fuzuli Yagmurlu from Suleyman Demirel University in Turkiye’s southwestern Isparta province inspected the fossils and found that the figures were formed by remains of an extinct mussel-like megalodon that lived in the marine ecosystem 195 million years ago.

A megalodon has a thick mussel-like double shell, Yagmurlu said, adding that the shape of their fossils is similar to that of a human heart.

Yagmur Eren, an export specialist of the marble factory, told Anadolu Agency that the workers noticed a different image on the surface of the stone.

Eren said it is the first time they have had encountered such an incident in the marble quarry, adding: “We are currently exhibiting the marble in the quarry here.”

UN Libya adviser hails ‘fruitful’ talks in Ankara

The UN secretary-general’s special adviser on Libya said she held “fruitful” talks with Turkish officials on developments in Libya.

Stephanie Williams held talks in Ankara on Friday with Turkiye’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Onal and Special Envoy Can Dizdar.

“We compared notes on political developments in Libya, the electoral process and options for the way forward,” Williams said.

The UN envoy noted that the officials agreed during the talks “on the importance of a coherent and inclusive regional and international support to Libya which builds on progress of the ongoing intra-Libyan dialogue.”

They also “stressed the need to reinforce the spirit of compromise among Libyan actors for the collective good of the country,” she added.

Libya’s presidential election was scheduled to take place on Dec. 24 last year under a UN roadmap, but the polls were postponed. No new date for the vote has yet been agreed.

Libyan rival parties have been in disagreement over the voting timetable for the presidential and parliamentary elections to be held simultaneously or one after the other.

Libyans hope that the upcoming elections will contribute to ending the armed conflict that has plagued the oil-rich country for years.
