Alexander Zverev, Matteo Berrettini and Denis Shapovalov qualified for the second round of the US Open men’s singles competition Tuesday.
Tokyo Olympic champion Zverev from Germany defeated American player Querrey with sets of 6-4, 7-5, 6-2 in New York.
World no. 6 Berrettini from Italy defeated France’s Jeremy Chardy, while Canada’s Shapovalov defeated Argentina’s Federico Delbonis in a straight set victory.
Also, Ashleigh Barty, Karolina Pliskova and Belinda Bencic advanced to the second round in the women’s singles competition.
