Major indices in the US stock market opened mixed on Friday.
The Dow Jones industrial average was up 29.6 points, or 0.09%, to 34,613 at 9.31 a.m. EDT (1331GMT). The S&P 500 fell 4.56 points or 0.10% to 4,495.
The Nasdaq declined 59.3 points, or 0.43%, to 13,838.
The VIX volatility index, known as the fear index, was up 1.21% to 21.81. The dollar index rose 0.39% to 100.15.
Precious metals were lower, with gold declining 0.11% to $1,935 per ounce and silver falling 0.60% to $24.59.
International benchmark Brent crude was trading at $100.41 per barrel for a 0.17% loss, while US benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was at $96.14 – a 0.11% rise.
