Ankara: Trkiye on Sunday reaffirmed its commitment to global sustainability efforts as it marked the International Day of Zero Waste, which the UN General Assembly adopted in 2022.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Turkish Foreign Ministry highlighted that the Zero Waste initiative, launched in 2017 under the leadership of Turkish first lady Emine Erdogan, was instrumental in the United Nations General Assembly designating March 30 as the International Day of Zero Waste in 2022. This initiative has played a significant role in raising awareness about environmental protection and effective waste management.
The ministry’s statement emphasized Trkiye’s dedication to leading international efforts aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It further reiterated the country’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
In 2022, the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution on the zero-waste initiative presented by Trkiye, which led to the declaration of March 30 as the International Day of Zero Waste. The first lady has been at the forefront of Trkiye’s zero-waste efforts and their promotion on the international stage.
