Greece does not forget Cyprus’s occupation, Sakellaropoulou says

President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou sent a message to the expatriate Hellenism, on the occasion of the upcoming national holiday of March 25, stressing the importance of the unity of the ecumenical Hellenism and the constant defence of the national sovereignty of the country. At the same time, she made a special reference to the Cyprus problem, stressing that Greece does not forget that "a part of Cyprus remains, for half a century, under Turkish occupation - an unacceptable situation that hurts us". "We continue to fight for a just and viable solution to the Cyprus problem, on the basis of international law, UN Security Council Resolutions and the principles of the European Union", Sakellaropoulou said. She also noted that as Greece proudly celebrates the anniversary of the 1821 Revolution, it continues to stand "on the side of all those who defend their own independence against revisionism and authoritarianism". "From Ukraine to the Middle East, our compass remains respect for in ternational law and humanitarian principles". Source: Cyprus News Agency
