German tennis player Zverev says he has torn ligaments in right ankle

German tennis player Alexander Zverev, who was injured during Friday’s French Open semifinal against Spanish Star Rafael Nadal, said that he has torn ligaments in right ankle.

“Hey guys! I am now on my way back home. Based on the first medical checks, it looks like I have torn several lateral ligaments in my right foot,” Zverev, 25, said on Twitter Saturday.

The world No. 3 said he will have “further examinations” in Germany.

Zverev had qualified for the final of the 2020 US Open and lost to Austrian tennis player Dominic Thiem.

Meanwhile, Nadal is currently playing against Norway’s Casper Ruud in the 2022 French Open men’s singles final.
