Death toll from floods caused by Kakhovka dam explosion in Ukraine rises to 46

The death toll from floods caused by the explosion at the Kakhovka dam in Ukraine's southern Kherson region rose to 46, according to the Russian TASS news agency on Thursday. "According to the latest data, 46 people were killed, 122 people were injured, they were hospitalized with hypothermia and other injuries," the news agency said, citing local emergency services. Ukraine and Russia have both blamed each other for carrying out strikes on June 6 which led to the destruction of the walls of the dam, resulting in flooding of nearby areas. Separately, Vladimir Saldo, the Russian-appointed head of the region's government, said on Telegram that the Ukrainian armed forces used UK-made StormShadow missiles to shell bridges that connect the Kherson region to the Crimean Peninsula. Sergey Aksyonov, the Russian-appointed head of Crimea, also said on Telegram that the pair of Chongarsky railway and automobile bridges have been attacked. Experts are inspecting the damages in order to determine whether the infrastructure can be further used for transport, he added.
