Cyprus President and German Chancellor meet in Berlin

The Cyprus problem and the President's proposal for a more active role of the EU, bilateral relations, issues related to the European agenda and regional and international developments will be discussed during a meeting President Nikos Christodoulides will have in Berlin with Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The two men and their delegations will have extensive talks in the afternoon, to be followed by statements to the press. Right after the meeting the President of the Republic will visit the Denkmal Holocaust Memorial, before departing for Cyprus. The President started his visit last night from Frankfurt where he participated in the celebrations for the 25 years of the European Central Bank. Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results. The latest round of negotiations, in July 2017 at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana ended inconclusively.
