China Condemns US Visa Restrictions on Chinese Officials Over Tibet Policies

Moscow: China on Tuesday condemned the United States’ remarks regarding China’s restrictions on US diplomats and other officials seeking access to Tibet, and its decision to impose visa restrictions on Chinese officials “determined to be substantially involved in the formulation or execution of policies related to access for foreigners to Tibetan Areas.”

According to Anadolu Agency, the Chinese government expressed strong opposition to the US actions, characterizing them as interference in China’s internal affairs. The Chinese authorities emphasized that the measures taken by the US were based on a misinterpretation of the situation in Tibet, alleging that such actions could potentially harm bilateral relations between the two nations.

The US has cited concerns over access to Tibet for its diplomats and officials as the reason for imposing these visa restrictions on Chinese personnel. The US claims that its actions are a response to China’s policies that restrict foreign access to the region, which it argues is necessary to ensure transparency and accountability.

China, however, maintains that its policies regarding Tibet are justified and insists that the area is open to foreign visitors under specific regulations. The Chinese government has urged the US to reconsider its stance and remove the visa restrictions to foster a more positive diplomatic relationship.

The ongoing tensions between the two powers over the Tibet issue highlight the complexities in their diplomatic interactions and the broader geopolitical implications of their policies.
