Asian stock markets close mixed on Thursday

Major Asian stock markets closed Thursday mixed amid inflationary pressures, tighter global financial conditions, and coronavirus-induced measures in China.

The Asia Dow, which includes blue-chip companies in the region, rose 1.28%, or 39 points, to 3,028.

Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 stock exchange posted the best performance on Thursday with better than expected growth data, surging 2.31%, or 635 points, to 28,065.

The Japanese economy is expected to grow 3.5% year-on-year in the second quarter, higher than the previous official expectation in August.

According to the Cabinet Office’s official forecast, the country’s gross domestic product rose by 0.9% in the second quarter versus in the previous three months.

While the Indian Sensex benchmark increased 1.12%, or 659.3 points, to 59,688, the Singapore index went up 0.71%, or 22.8 points, to finish at 3,233.

On the other hand, the Hang Seng, the benchmark for blue-chip stocks trading on the Hong Kong stock exchange, fell 1%, or 189.7 points, to 18,854.

China’s Shanghai Stock Exchange lost 0.33%, or 10.7 points, to 3,235.?
