The UN climate summit kicked off Sunday in Egypt’s Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh.

Taking place from Nov. 6-18, more than 40,000 participants have been registered for the 27th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) to discuss ways to lessen the negative impacts of climate change and adapting to its repercussions.

The past eight years are on track to be the warmest on record, fueled by growing greenhouse gas concentrations and accumulated heat, the World Meteorological Organization’s provisional State of Global Climate in 2022 report said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke by phone Sunday with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on financial assistance to Ukraine, the grain deal and strengthening sanctions against Iran.

Kipkemboi took first position among the men, finishing the 42.2-kilometer (26.2-mile) intercontinental run in 2 hours, 10 minutes and 18 seconds.
