In addition to using cutting-edge robotics technologies, the solution also leverages advanced artificial intelligence. And through UBTECH’s Smart Healthcare Cloud Platform, the Smart Elderly Care Solution creates a network that enables seamless integration of a variety of devices. “This is the industry’s comprehensive solution that combines advanced robotics and AI technology to assist seniors and their caregivers in nursing homes. Rather than providing services using isolated, individual products, we focus on addressing system-level challenges. By extensively applying AI technology, we vastly improved product performance to bring a richer, more optimized experience to the elderly and caregivers,” Henry Tan, Co-Chief Technology Officer of UBTECH and General Manager of UBTECH Healthcare, says, “It is an honor to have our Smart Elderly Care Solution be recognized by the Edison Awards™.”

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, starting in 2030, all baby boomers will be 65 and older. And by 2034, older adults will outnumber children for the first time in U.S. history. This forecast generates demand for efficient, comprehensive assistive care solutions.

Designed for accessibility, UBTECH’s Smart Elderly Care Solution portfolio accepts a multitude of inputs. Its smart sensors, working in parallel with its data platform, transform care from passive to proactive in assisting with daily tasks. And with rich interactive features, the solution can support seniors’ physical and mental well-being.

Moving into the smart care era, UBTECH provides people with an intelligent, independent, and convenient solution to raise the standard for the elderly care industry. Within the past year, UBTECH has released five service robots: Wassi, an intelligent walking assistance robot; VerCari, a containerized delivery robot; PathFynder, a smart wheelchair; AuCari, an open delivery robot; and Welli, a companion robot.

Due to its utility and innovation, UBTECH’s Smart Elderly Care Solution is garnering international interest. The PathFynder smart wheelchair is now exploring market in North America. In addition, UBTECH has worked with companies and partners to deliver and implement the solution in different facilities and scenarios. These successes are encouraging UBTECH to continue its mission to refine its technologies, pushing the industry forward to promote a higher quality of care.

As UBTECH expands its business globally, it expects to generate higher value and provide higher-quality services for seniors worldwide. By continuing to develop robotics and AI, the company aims to address the long-term challenge for society and create a new industry to boost the global economy.

Olymp Trade Held a Ramadan Charity Campaign

3,116 families in need received 10-kg food baskets

KINGSTOWN, SAINT VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES – Media OutReach – 24 April 2023 – Olymp Trade, a trading platform with over 80 million user accounts, has completed Every 1 Counts, a Ramadan charity campaign. The aim was to encourage the community of traders to support and help those in need. For every 100 trades made by the campaign participants, Olymp Trade committed to sponsoring one food basket for a disadvantaged family. The goal was to assemble 3,000 baskets and thus enable as many families to enjoy iftar meals.

Once Every 1 Count was over, Olymp Trade donated the resulting amount to the Misr El Kheir Foundation (MEK), a well-known Egyptian NGO. Since 2007, the foundation has been contributing to human development, intending to reduce poverty, illiteracy, unemployment, and disease.

Every 1 Count: Results
19,760 traders from Egypt and other MENA countries joined Olymp Trade’s Ramadan campaign. They collectively assembled 3,116 food baskets.

In April, MEK volunteers distributed more than 30,000 kg of food aid among 3,116 impoverished households during the Iftar Ramadan Charity Campaign. Additionally, they distributed 1,000 free hot meals to provide instant hunger relief.

On its official Facebook page, Misr El Kheir Foundation thanked Olymp Trade for supporting this charitable cause.

According to an Olymp Trade’s representative, the company considers the event successful and plans to organize such campaigns regularly in the future:

“So far, Olymp Trade has held several charity campaigns, including one in Egypt. But Every 1 Counts is unique because it directly engages so many of our users. Their collective activity on the platform boosted Olymp Trade’s donation to 1,000,000 EGP. We are really proud to make this contribution on behalf of the platform’s community. It’s yet another proof that trading is not limited to pursuing personal gain. It also has the potential to bring about positive social changes.”

UN chief proposes ‘way forward’ for Ukraine grain initiative

United Nations chief Antonio Guterres has presented a "way forward" on extending Black Sea grain deal during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in New York, the UN said.

Guterres gave Lavrov "a letter to President Vladimir Putin, outlining a proposed way forward aimed at the improvement, extension and expansion" of the deal, a spokesperson for the Secretary General said in a statement on Monday.

An agreement has been in place since last July that allows Ukrainian grain to be exported via the Black Sea after they were blocked amid the conflict with Russia. The exports are vital for world food security.

A similar letter was sent to the two other signatories in the agreement, Ukraine and Türkiye, the statement added.

The accord, known the "Black Sea Grain Initiative," was renewed for the second time on March 19.

Rather than a 120-day renewal, Russia insisted on just a 60-day extension over objections to obstacles to its own exports.

Sanctions

Earlier this month, Moscow said a number of conditions must be met for Russia to extend it beyond May 18.

There are no sanctions on Russian exports of food and fertilisers to global markets but the problems are related to the secondary sanctions imposed on shipping and insurance companies as well as banks.

The foreign ministry laid out a list of conditions for the extension of the deal, including allowing the Russian Agricultural Bank (Rosselkhozbank) to reconnect to the SWIFT payment system.

Supplies of agricultural machinery, spare parts and services also have to be resumed, the statement said.

Guterres said he "took note of the concerns expressed by Russia" regarding the fertilisers.

"We will study the ideas that (the Secretary general) has given us on paper," Lavrov said in comments release by his ministry, adding that "so far, there has not been much progress."

Berlin airport grinds to a halt as security workers strike over pay

Germany's Berlin-Brandenburg airport has cancelled around 300 flights as security staff began a full-day walkout over an ongoing dispute over pay and work conditions.

Berlin Brandenburg airport announced on Saturday that it had cancelled all flight departures on Monday and said that landings would also be affected after the Verdi union called on security workers to stage a one-day strike to raise the pressure in wage talks.

The strike began at 3.30 a.m. local time (0130 GMT) and is set to continue until midnight (2200 GMT), according to the Verdi trade union.

“Due to the announced warning strike at the aviation security controls, no departures are possible today,” the airport operator said in a statement.

“Arriving flights may also be affected by cancellations and changes to the flight schedule may occur due to the warning strike,” it added.

Another airport spokesperson said roughly 240 flights had been scheduled to take off.

Passengers were advised to contact their airline or travel agent for information on rebooking and alternative travel options.

Demand to increase pay

The union, which staged several strikes last week at other major airports, is demanding an increase in overtime pay, and surcharges for work on weekends, public holidays, and during night shifts.

The latest round of negotiations between the union and the Federal Association of Aviation Security Companies (BDLS) to push for pay increases for nights, weekends and public holiday shifts failed to make any significant progress earlier this month.

A new round of negotiations is expected to take place on April 27 and 28.

Europe's biggest economy has seen some of the most disruptive strikes in decades this year as unions press for higher wages to offset the surging cost of living.

Last week, airports in Duesseldorf, Hamburg, Cologne Bonn and Stuttgart were hit by strikes.

Moorepark Pig Research Farm Update April 2023

Tomás Ryan, Farm Manager at Teagasc Pig Research Facility gives an update on what has been happening on the farm during the first quarter of 2023.

He tells us about some of the key performance figures. Conception rate and farrowing rate are at 90% and 88% respectively for the first three months year to date. Production figures in the farrowing house are improving, born alive is up to 16, average birth weight is 1.5 and mortality is down to 13%. The three week batch system limits the cross fostering availability and the research element on the farm adds a component of mortality over a commercial unit.

At the end of lactation, piglets are weaning at 8.5kg which is up a little from last year, they are weaning 13.5 to 13.75 piglets per litter. Therefore weaning 115 - 120 kg per sow, which is a great improvement over the last few years. Tomás puts this gain down to the amount of creep feed piglets are consuming pre weaning, which has benefits for weight gain post weaning. They also wean intact litters which has benefits for the pigs post weaning too.

Tomás tells us they have made some changes to the breeding herd on the research farm, in the past they have always brought in replacement gilts, but have recently decided to start breeding their own replacement gilts. As a consequence the breeding herd has reduced down to 150 from 200 at the moment, in the next number of months they aim to bring this figure up again.

‘Can’t fall back on old assumptions’: Australia releases new defense review

Australia released a major Defense Strategic Review on Monday as Prime Minister Antony Albanese declared that the country "cannot fall back on old assumptions." "We commissioned the Defense Strategic Review to make sure Australia is more secure ... Because national security is every government's most solemn responsibility," said Albanese. Australia sees China's military build-up in the region as "unparalleled" since World War II, and felt "a strong sense of urgency to respond," according to the details of the review shared on local broadcaster SBS News. "We cannot fall back on old assumptions," Albanese said, calling the document "most significant work done" since World War II. China, with which Canberra has recently improved ties, including by resuming military dialogue, is referred to at least nine times in the document. Canberra is planning major upgrades to its long-range missile capabilities, along with changes to the Australian Defense Force (ADF) infrastructure. The threat of land invasion by a foreign power remains remote, said the document. However, it described China's military buildup in the region as the "most ambitious of any country' since the 1940s. China-US competition Australia sees China-US competition as the "defining feature of our region and our time," according to the document. "China's assertion of sovereignty over the South China Sea threatens the global rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific in a way that adversely impacts Australia's national interests." Still, Defense Minister Richard Marles acknowledged that "a stable relationship with Beijing would be to both parties' benefit." "Australia will continue to cooperate with China where we can, disagree where we must, manage our differences wisely and above all else, engage and vigorously pursue our national interest," he told a news conference alongside Albanese. Besides calling for "an immediate" five-fold increase in the range of missile capabilities to 1,000 kilometers (621 miles), the document also warned of "real risk of nuclear escalation." Referring to cyber warfare as a threat "not bound by geography," it warned of "economic coercion and threats to Australian trade routes." The document also seeks change in Australia's response to climate change, urging the deployment of soldiers only as a last option. "Defense transitioning towards clean energy would bolster Australia's resilience to natural disasters, as would efforts from governments of all levels to combat climate change. "And the ADF troops should only be deployed to local natural disasters when there is no other option ... Defense should be the force of last resort for domestic aid to the civil community, except in extreme circumstances," the document said.
