ISTANBUL (AA) – Manchester United confirmed on Friday the signing of Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen on a three-year deal.

“Manchester United is a special club, and I cannot wait to get started,” Eriksen said after the signing ceremony.

“I have had the privilege of playing at Old Trafford many times but to do it in the red shirt of United will be an amazing feeling,” he added.

The 30-year-old has played for Ajax, Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Milan, and Brentford.

He suffered cardiac arrest during a EURO 2020 Group B game against Finland in Copenhagen’s Parken Stadium on June 12.

The Danish midfielder underwent a successful operation and was discharged from the hospital on June 18.

Eriksen did not appear for Inter and his nation for several months before joining Brentford on a free transfer during the winter transfer window at the end of January.

He has 115 caps for Denmark, scoring 38 goals. He played in 237 English Premier League matches, registering 52 goals and 71 assists.

As a three-time Dutch champion with Ajax, Eriksen helped Inter win the 2021 Italian Serie A title.

Danish cyclist Mads Pedersen claimed a win at the 13th stage of the Tour de France on Friday.

Pedersen, of the team Trek-Segafredo, clinched the victory after finishing the 193-kilometer (120 miles) stage from Le Bourg-d’Oisans to Saint-Etienne.

Pedersen claimed the final sprint to win his first Grand Tour stage with Fred Wright from Bahrain Victorious who came second, and Israel-Premier Tech’s Hugo Houle who finished in third place.

Jumbo-Visma’s Jonas Vingegaard, who came 19th in Friday’s stage, is still at the top of the general ranking with 50 hours, 47 minutes, and 34 seconds.

The 14th stage of the event, a 192.5-km (119 miles) ride, will be run from Saint-Etienne to Mende on Saturday.

Oil prices increased on Friday as the Federal Reserve showed signs of a less aggressive rate hike.

International benchmark Brent crude was trading at $99.92 per barrel at 9.17 a.m. local time (0617 GMT) an increase of %0.82 from the previous session’s closing.

American benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was also at the same level of Wednesday’s closing, trading at $96.33 per barrel.

Annual consumer inflation rose 9.1% in June, while producer prices increased 11.3% last month on an annual basis.

The recent climb in inflation figures has triggered worries that the Fed could make a rate hike of 100 basis points at the conclusion of its two-day meeting on July 27.

However, US Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller said Thursday he supports another interest rate hike of 75 basis points later this month.

As part of a Middle East tour, President Joe Biden is due to arrive in Saudi Arabia on Friday. This is coming just days after data revealed that US inflation jumped to a four-decade high last month, largely due to energy costs.

Daily electricity consumption in Türkiye increased by 4.39% on Thursday compared to the previous day, totaling 865,153 megawatt-hours, according to official figures of Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEIAS) on Friday.

Hourly power consumption peaked at 40,293 megawatt-hours at 03.00 p.m. local time (1200 GMT), data from TEIAS showed. The country’s electricity usage dropped to the lowest level of 27,456 megawatt-hours at 07.00 a.m. local time (0400 GMT).

Electricity production amounted to 856,716 megawatt-hours on Thursday, marking an increase of 4.59% compared to Wednesday.

Electricity production from wind plants constituted 20.75% of total generation, while imported coal plants and hydro power plants contributed 19.5% and 15.5%, respectively.

On Thursday, the country’s electricity exports amounted to 9,265 megawatt-hours and imports totaled 17,702 megawatt-hours.

The highest electricity price rate for one megawatt-hour on Türkiye’s day-ahead spot market for Saturday will be 3,350 Turkish liras at 09.00 p.m. local time (1900 GMT), according to official figures on Friday.

The lowest rate is determined as 1400 liras at 06.00 a.m. local time (0300 GMT), the figures showed.

The Energy Exchange Istanbul (EXIST) data for the trade volume on Friday’s electricity market showed an increase of 32.35% to 1.13 billion liras compared to Thursday.

The arithmetical and weighted average prices of electricity on the day-ahead spot market are calculated as 2,319.18 liras and 2,333.15 liras, respectively.

The highest electricity price rate for one megawatt-hour for Friday was set at 3,000 Turkish liras at 09.00 p.m. local time (1900 GMT), while the lowest rate was determined as 1750 liras at 08.00 a.m. local time (0500 GMT).

US$1 equals 17.45 liras at 1112 GMT on Friday.
