Peking University HSBC Business School and Cambridge Judge Business School announce Cooperative Programme for delivery of their own programmes in Shenzhen, China

SHENZHEN, China, Aug. 30, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — On August 27, Peking University HSBC Business School and the University of Cambridge Judge Business School announced a Cooperative Programme in Shenzhen, China, that extends previous business-education collaboration between the two institutions.

Peking University HSBC Business School and Cambridge Judge Business School

The two schools announced in March 2020 plans to advance long-term collaboration in business and management, beginning with the launch of two executive education programmes focusing on innovation and international management.

The Cooperative Programme consists of a new Global Executive MBA (GEMBA) programme from Cambridge Judge Business School, and a Master’s / Certificate programme in China Studies for Economics and Management (MCS/CCS) from Peking University.

Cambridge Judge Business School will deliver its new Global Executive MBA (GEMBA) programme through Cambridge Judge faculty and guest lecturers, with up to 50% taught in Shenzhen. The MBA degree and core curriculum of the GEMBA programme will match that of the Executive MBA (EMBA) programme that has operated in Cambridge since 2009 and which will continue in tandem with the new GEMBA programme.

This will be the first time Cambridge Judge offers regular MBA teaching outside of Cambridge, marking a new chapter in the business school’s history when the GEMBA programme begins in January 2023.

Peking University’s MCS/CCS programme will be delivered concurrently in Shenzhen through its faculty and guest lecturers. The programme is designed to focus on professional knowledge of China’s economy, financial market and corporate management, delivering a profound and integrated vision of China with a global perspective.

While each party will confer its own degree or certificate to students, the Cooperative Programme offers new opportunities for senior students to gain exposure to the business climate of both the Cambridge cluster and the Shenzhen Pearl River Bay Area, combining business studies with an exposure to Chinese business and management culture.

Says Professor Christoph Loch, whose 10-year tenure as Cambridge Judge Dean ends on 31 August: “Cambridge Judge Business School is proud of our Executive MBA (EMBA) programme, which attracts students from around the world for a programme based in Cambridge. The parallel Global EMBA programme is a great opportunity for experienced professionals based in the Asia-Pacific region, and beyond, especially as they will also have the opportunity to participate in China studies with our partner Peking University HSBC Business School.”

Says Professor Hai Wen, the Founding Dean of Peking University HSBC Business School: “The Cooperative Programme by Peking University HSBC Business School and Cambridge Judge Business School offers a rare opportunity to learn from two top business schools representing the East and the West. Students will acquire a deeper understanding of core knowledge and gain first-hand experience of contemporary business environments in China.”

The GEMBA programme will commence teaching in January 2023 and the MCS/CCS programme will start in September 2022. Information about admissions procedures is expected to be announced later this year.

Afghan woman gives birth on board Turkish Airlines evacuation flight

An Afghan woman successfully gave birth to a healthy baby girl in the middle of an evacuation flight operated by Turkish Airlines.

After leaving her stopover in Dubai, Soman Noori, 26, gave birth at an altitude of 10,000 meters (32,808 feet) in Kuwaiti airspace at 0100GMT, said a statement by Turkey’s national flag carrier on Saturday.

The baby girl was named Havva (Eve, but also a variation on the Turkish Hava or air) by the cabin crew, which assisted in the birth on the flight, which evacuated Afghan citizens working in Afghanistan to the UK.

After the pregnant passenger told the cabin crew about her labor pains, the crew asked whether there was a doctor on board.

As no doctor was available, “cabin crew facilitated the birth in line with their training,” the statement said.

After landing in Kuwait as a precaution, the aircraft continued its journey towards their destination Birmingham, England, with the baby and her family.

Founded in 1933, Turkish Airlines has a fleet of 372 (passenger and cargo) aircraft flying to 325 worldwide destinations, including 275 international and 50 domestic.

Turkey deports Daesh/ISIS terror suspect after arrested with fake passport

Turkey on Saturday deported a Daesh/ISIS terrorist who was arrested in Istanbul earlier this month for carrying a fake passport, according to police.

The Russian national, identified with the initials A. U. D., arrived at Istanbul Airport on Aug. 2 to travel to Moscow.

The suspect was arrested there for holding a fake passport, Istanbul police said.

After travelling from Egypt’s capital Cairo and acquiring a false passport from Ghana, the suspect made several attempts to re-enter Turkey this year but was arrested and sent back each time.

Last year, the suspect was deported from Turkey over membership to Daesh/ISIS terror group.

In 2013, Turkey became one of the first countries to declare Daesh/ISIS a terror group.

The country has since been attacked by the outfit multiple times, with 315 people killed and hundreds more injured in at least ten suicide bombings, seven bomb attacks, and four armed assaults.

In response, Turkey launched anti-terror operations at home and abroad to prevent further attacks.

Turkey nabs 6 FETO terror suspects trying to flee to Greece

Turkey arrested six alleged members of the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) – the group behind the 2016 defeated coup – while trying to flee to Greece, security sources said on Saturday.

The coast guard teams nabbed the suspects on a boat off Karaada island of Bodrum district in the Aegean province of Mugla when they attempted to cross into Greece illegally, said the source, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

FETO and its US-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, in Turkey, in which 251 people were killed and 2,734 injured.

Ankara accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.

At least 70 irregular migrants rescued by Turkey in Aegean Sea

Turkey rescued 70 asylum seekers in the Aegean Sea after they were illegally pushed back by Greek authorities into Turkish territorial waters, according to the Turkish Coast Guard Command.

The migrants were rescued in four separate operations on Friday in western Aydin province off the coast of Didim, it said in a written statement.

Rescue teams dispatched aid to a group traveling in a rubber boat after it requested help because the engine failed with 30 people onboard.

All migrants were handed to local migration offices for deportation procedures.

Turkey has been a key transit point for asylum seekers who want to cross into Europe to start new lives, especially those fleeing war and persecution.

Turkey, which already hosts 4 million refugees, more than any country in the world, is taking new security measures on its borders to prevent a fresh influx of migrants.
