Turkey’s Besra Duman wins bronze in women’s 55 kg powerlifting

Turkey’s Besra Duman won the bronze medal in women’s 55 kg powerlifting at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games on Friday.

The Turkish athlete lifted 124 kg to bag Turkey’s second medal at the event.

Ukraine’s Mariana Shevchuk, the current women’s world record holder, won the gold medal after lifting 125 kg, while Cuijuan Xiao of China bagged silver with 124 kg.

Asian markets end week with mixed figures

Major stock markets in Asia except for China’s Shanghai index were in negative territory at Friday’s close ahead of the US Federal Reserve’s (Fed) Jackson Hole Symposium, but ended the week with gains.

The Asia Dow, which includes blue-chip companies in the region, lost 5.09 points, or 0.13%, to close at 3,857 points. It was up over 3% weekly.

Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 stock exchange decreased 101.15 points, or 0.36%, to 27,641 following the Tokyo Core Consumer Price Index data, which remained unchanged after decreasing over a year. The index posted a 2.3% increase this week.

The Hang Seng, the benchmark for blue-chip stocks trading on the Hong Kong stock exchange, was marginally down 7.8 points, or 0.03%, to 25,408, while it had a weekly rise of 2.25%.

China’s Shanghai stock exchange gained 20.49 points, or 0.59%, to 3,522 points, it surged 2.77% this week.



In Europe, all major indices posted rises during the last transaction day of the week.
