US swimmer Dressel wins gold, sets Olympic record in Tokyo 2020

US swimmer Caeleb Dressel set an Olympic record on Thursday when he clinched a gold medal in Tokyo 2020.

Dressel, 24, was the victor in men’s 100-meter freestyle final with a time of 47.02 and set a longtime Olympic record as well.

The previous record holder in this category was former Australian swimmer Eamon Sullivan as the 35-year-old had set it in the Beijing 2008 with 47.05.

In Thursday’s final at Tokyo Aquatics Centre, Australia’s Kyle Chalmers came second to win silver as Chalmers was 0.06 seconds behind Dressel.

Russian Olympic Committee’s (ROC) Kliment Kolesnikov had a degree of 47.44 to earn bronze medal in the 100-meter freestyle.
