Belinda Bencic of Switzerland and Czech Marketa Vondrousova will play against each other for their first-ever Olympic gold medal in women’s single tennis final at Tokyo 2020.
Bencic defeated her Kazakh opponent Elena Rybakina with sets of 7-6, 4-6 and 6-3 while Vondrousova beat World no. 6 Elina Svitolina of Ukraine with sets of 6-3 and 6-1 in semifinal matches on Thursday.
Achieving some remarkable victories recently, Marketa Vondrousova also defeated World no. 2 Naomi Osaka of Japan in the third round.
She reached French Open final and lost the Grand Slam to current world no.1 Ashleigh Barty in 2019.
Belinda Bencic reached semifinal in 2019 US Open and was eliminated by that year’s champion Bianca Andreescu of Canada.
