The justice ministry said on Saturday through its department for juvenile justice that a group of underage detainees who staged a riot at Turin’s juvenile prison earlier this week have been transferred.
About 50 youths gained control of most of the Ferrante Aporti prison in the night between Thursday and Friday, setting cells on fire, damaging offices and corridors and attacking guards.
The ministry said the young adults involved in the riot “have been transferred” and “disciplinary measures” have been taken against the people involved, all of whom have been reported to authorities.
The riot followed the news that a detainee’s brother had been arrested when he was found in possession of 20 grams of an unspecified drug while visiting the facility.
The ministry said the riot caused damages worth “hundreds of thousands of euros”.
