Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides said on Thursday that the government would announce a number of horizontal and a number of targeted measures to help consumers deal with the high cost of living.
He noted at the same time that improving the daily life of citizens is a priority for the government.
President Christodoulides was replying to journalists’ questions upon his arrival at an event to mark the expansion of the post of neighbourhood social worker across the island.
Replying to a question about measures against the high cost of living the government will decide on during a meeting of the Cabinet today, he said that “this government has proven from the outset, with actions not words, that it has only one priority, improving citizens daily life.”
To that extent he referred to the measures announced so far as well as other actions the government has taken to the benefit of citizens.
In this context, he noted, “today will announce more measures, some of them horizontal, some targeted,” adding that
“announcing targeted measures is our priority so that our compatriots who are faced with most challenges to do with the high cost of living can deal with them.”
He also spoke of the responsible policies followed by the government and said that it would not give in to policies which could endanger the country.
The high cost of living is a fact, we are very much aware of it, we know where most high costs occur, where the challenges are greater and it is only through a holistic approach which we have been following that we will deal with this matter comprehensively, the President noted.
