We support efforts to improve life of kidney patients, Health Minister says

The Ministry of Health supports any efforts that contribute substantially towards improving the quality of life of patients with kidney problems, Minister Michalis Damianos said on Tuesday evening.

Damianos was addressing an event organised by “Nefrontida” Nephrology Center.

He described the operation of the Center as a milestone in the history of nephrology in Cyprus, as it is the first hemodialysis day care center, under private law, throughout Cyprus, within the framework of the national health scheme.

The Minister said that with the operation of new centers, patients have the possibility of additional options for their treatment, while healthy competition is also created between the various centers, resulting in the continuous upgrading and improvement of the quality of the services provided.

He praised the fact that the “Nefrontida” Nephrology Center uses state-of-the-art equipment and employs trained and experienced medical and nursing staff.

Damianos also noted that the Ministry of Health is an ar
dent supporter of the training of nurses in the field of Nephrology and reminded that the Education Department of the Directorate of Nursing Services has completed the first Nephrology Nursing program, which has also been certified by the European Association of Nephrology Nurses.

The Minister went on to say that this programme is an important achievement and many European countries are now trying to adopt it. Very soon, he added, the second programme will also start and the Center and its nurses will have the opportunity to participate.
