Vietnam Set to Confirm $8 Billion Purchase of 50 Boeing Aircraft

Tehran: Vietnam is preparing to confirm an $8 billion purchase of 50 Boeing aircraft, as reported by Politico, which cited a joint draft statement. This significant acquisition is part of the Southeast Asian country’s broader strategy to strengthen its aviation sector while expanding its economic engagements with the United States.

According to Anadolu Agency, the deal is set to be finalized alongside existing agreements to purchase $2.9 billion in U.S. agricultural products. Vietnam Airlines had previously signed a $7.8 billion agreement with Boeing in September 2023, following a meeting between former U.S. President Joe Biden and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Hanoi. This previous agreement laid the groundwork for the current transaction, underscoring the growing bilateral relations between the two nations.

The report emerged concurrently with an announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding a trade deal with Hanoi. This announcement followed discussions with Vietnamese Communist Par
ty General Secretary To Lam. President Trump characterized the agreement as a “Great Deal of Cooperation between our two Countries” in a post on Truth Social, highlighting the strategic importance of the relationship.

Both sides are actively working towards finalizing the deal, with the draft agreement suggesting completion “within the coming weeks.” Despite the progression of talks, Boeing has not yet responded to Anadolu’s request for confirmation, leaving some details of the agreement still to be clarified.
