Warsaw: Poland’s defense minister announced that US troops would continue to be stationed in the country following recent discussions about a potential withdrawal from Eastern Europe. Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz confirmed on X that the nature of the mission at Jasionka Airport would change in alignment with the decisions made at the NATO summit in Washington.
According to Anadolu Agency, the defense minister emphasized that the tasks currently handled by US troops at Jasionka would be taken over by other allied forces. A statement from the Defense Ministry indicated that the US administration plans to relocate American equipment and personnel within Poland, as part of a broader strategy to enhance US military operations.
The ministry further assured that the cooperation between Poland, the US, and NATO remains consistent. This announcement follows an NBC News report that hinted at a possible withdrawal of up to half of the 20,000 US troops stationed in Eastern Europe by the Biden administration in 2022. The report also noted ongoing discussions about reducing troop levels in Romania and Poland while President Donald Trump seeks to negotiate a ceasefire with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the conflict in Ukraine.
