US stocks open Tuesday mixed

ISTANBUL: Major US stock exchanges opened Tuesday on a mixed note.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average decreased six points, or 0.02%, to 40,823 as of 9.45 a.m. EDT (1345GMT).

The SandP 500, on the other hand, rose 19 points, or 0.35% to 5,490.

The Nasdaq Composite, meanwhile, added 50 points, or 0.3%, to 16,936.

The VIX volatility index, referred to as the “fear index,” fell 1.4% to 19.17. The 10-year US Treasury yield rose 0.1% to 3.701%.

The US dollar index increased 0.1% to 101.63, while the euro lost 0.07% against the dollar, trading at $1.1027.

Precious metals were mixed with gold adding 0.1% to $2,508 per ounce but silver shed 0.15% to $28.31 per ounce.

Oil prices decreased around 1%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $71.14 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $68.03 per barrel.
