US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources, Geoffrey Pyatt, underlined the importance that the trilateral "3+1" cooperation scheme between Greece, Cyprus, Israel and the United States has for the Biden administration. Speaking on Friday afternoon at Delphi Economic Forum panel discussion on "Energy Avenues: The Role of the Eastern Mediterranean", Geoffrey Pyatt said that the US government sees the '3+1' scheme as a strong priority. "The entire energy map of the Southeastern Europe is being redesigned, and we will continue to work with all of our European partners, and other major players like Egypt and Israel, to promote regional energy security," he noted. Against this backdrop, he assured that the '3+1' cooperation 'remains a strong priority for the Biden administration.' This cooperation scheme encapsulates how the Biden administration understands regional cooperation, building on the US' observer status in the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF), as well as the potential to form a strong dialogue with the EU on energy issues, Pyatt explained. The Biden administration sees the Eastern Mediterranean "as a region of extraordinary opportunity", he concluded.
