The US-backed Syrian Free Army has launched an offensive targeting the towns of Al-Bukamal and Mayadin: The US-backed Syrian Free Army has initiated a significant military operation aimed at capturing the towns of Al-Bukamal and Mayadin in the strategic Deir ez-Zor province. This offensive marks a pivotal move from the Tanf base in Homs, a location known for housing US forces.
According to Anadolu Agency, Syrian Free Army forces began their attack from the Deir ez-Zor city center. The forces are advancing towards Al-Bukamal, which lies near the Syria-Iraq border, and Mayadin, situated in the eastern part of the Deir ez-Zor province.
These towns have been identified as operational headquarters for Iran-backed groups. Additionally, Iraq’s Hashd al-Shaabi forces are reported to be actively moving in and out of the region, adding to the strategic importance of these locations.
US forces have a history of conducting strikes in these areas, primarily targeting Iran-backed groups and Syrian regime forces, indicat
ing a continued effort to destabilize adversarial forces in the region.
It is important to note that the Syrian Free Army operates independently from the Free Syrian Army (FSA), which has since been rebranded as the Syrian National Army following the public uprisings in Syria. This distinction highlights the unique position of the Syrian Free Army in the current conflict dynamics.
