UPDATE – Turkish stocks down at Tuesday’s close

Turkey's benchmark stock index closed Tuesday at 1,365.27 points, down 0.87% from the previous close.

After starting the day at 1,376.37 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index lost 11.96 points over Monday's close at 1,377.23 points.

During the day, the index's lowest value was 1,357.26 points, while its daily high was 1,385.88 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 970.2 billion Turkish liras ($119.5 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 15.5 billion Turkish liras ($1.91 billion).

In the second transaction day of the week, 23 stocks on the index rose, 75 fell, and two were flat compared to Monday.

The highest trading volumes were posted by iron/steel producer Eregli, private lender Garanti BBVA, and petrochemical giant Petkim.

Wheels manufacturer Jants was the best performer, with its shares up 10%, while stocks of energy firm Odas dropped the most, 9.93%.

One ounce of gold was traded for $1,770.50 by market close, flat compared to the previous day, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $66 per barrel as of 6.10 p.m. local time (1510GMT).
