The “United for Peace’ EU-UWC youth leadership forum that is to take place in Nicosia in September aims to bring together 200 attendees from Cyprus and abroad and amplify their voice as advocates for a more peaceful and sustainable world.
The EU Scholarship Programme for Cypriot Youth at UWC (United World Colleges) announces the “United for Peace EU-UWC youth leadership forum” in Nicosia, Cyprus, on 21-22, September 2024.
‘The forum aims to foster peace and leadership in young people, primarily aged 14-18, from Cyprus and abroad and amplify their voice as advocates for a more peaceful and sustainable world’, it said in an announcement. ‘The one-of-a-kind event will bring together 200 attendees, including Cypriot and international UWC students, staff and alumni, as well as Cypriot high school students, educators, civil society partners and other stakeholders’, it adds.
The two-day forum, mirroring the UWC educational model, it said, ‘will showcase, interrogate and provide lived-experiences that directly rel
ate to the role of the youth, education, and the European Union in peacebuilding and changemaking’.
During the event, youth will join a rich programme featuring keynote talks, interactive workshops, youth-led sessions and engaging discussion panels.
It is noted that the EU Scholarship Programme for Cypriot Youth at UWC started in 2019 and aims to build mutual understanding between Cypriot communities. It is funded by the European Union under the Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community and is implemented by UWC.
