The UK’s annual inflation rate in June was 9.4%, its highest level in 40 years.
The country’s statistical office said the annual inflation was at the highest level since February 1982, according to indicative modelled consumer price inflation estimates.
The rate was 9.1% in May on a monthly basis, while prices also rose 0.8% in June.
“Rising prices for motor fuels and food made the largest upward contributions to the change,” it said.
