Ukrainian President Asserts No ‘Alternative’ to a Strong Europe Amid War.

Budapest: The Ukrainian president said on Thursday that there is no ‘alternative’ to a strong Europe, calling for unity among European countries to reach peace amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. ‘Peace is the reward only for those strong. Thus, there is no alternative to a strong Europe. And unity is essential for strength,’ Volodymyr Zelenskyy told the fifth European Political Community (EPC) summit held in the Hungarian capital Budapest.

According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy expressed that there has been much talk about Ukraine making concessions to Russia since the last EPC summit in July, stating it is ‘unacceptable’ for Kyiv and ‘suicidal’ for all Europe. He criticized the idea of Europe seeking favor from leaders like North Korean President Kim Jong Un, emphasizing that strong leaders who contributed to a united and peaceful Europe would not entertain such notions.

Zelenskyy highlighted the concept of ‘peace through strength’, a notion referred to by US President-elect Donald J. Trump, suggesting i
ts past effectiveness and calling for its application once more. He warned against the illusion of achieving peace by showing weakness or compromising European positions, arguing that Russia’s ambition for global power, starting with Ukraine, necessitates a robust response.

He underscored the need for adequate weapons rather than diplomatic talks, dismissing the effectiveness of engaging with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who he claimed is solely focused on wars. Zelenskyy maintained that only pressure could restrain Russia’s aggressive ambitions, while reaffirming Ukraine’s commitment to a ‘clear diplomatic system’ designed to push Russia towards a ‘just peace’, with Ukraine’s peace formula and ‘victory plan’ still on the table.
