Türkiye’s Kunter becomes Tunisian basketball team’s new coach

Turkish basketball coach Erman Kunter will serve with the Tunisian national team for the next three years, he confirmed on Wednesday.

In a Twitter post, Kunter said he became the coach of the defending FIBA AfroBasket (African basketball championship) champions for a three-year rebuilding process, confirming his move to Tunisia.

The next AfroBasket is scheduled to be held in 2025.

A former basketball player, Kunter, 65, left France’s Cholet Basket in 2021. He won the 2010 French league title with the Cholet club.

In France, he also coached ASVEL and Le Mans.

Kunter was the Turkish national team head coach in the 1999 European Basketball Championship in France – widely known as the EuroBasket 1999. Turkey reached the quarterfinals in the tournament.

The experienced coach also managed Turkish clubs Darussafaka Basketbol, Besiktas, and Galatasaray.

An Istanbul native, Kunter acquired a French passport in 2010 to have dual citizenship.
