Turkiye’s crude steel production up 6.1% in November

Turkiye’s crude steel production grew 6.1% year-on-year in November 2021, according to trade group data.

The production hit 3.4 million tons in November, the Turkish Steel Producers’ Association (TCUD) said in a statement on Tuesday.

The export volume of steel products slightly fell 0.4% to 1.5 million tons, while its earnings jumped 80.4% to $1.5 billion during the same period.

Steel imports, meanwhile, climbed 5.5% to 1.2 million tons, while they soared 71.9% to $1.3 billion in terms of value.

Turkiye is the world’s eighth-largest crude steel producer.

Citing World Steel Association (worldsteel) data, the group said global crude steel output in November 2021 decreased 9.9% from a year ago due to a significant fall in China, the world’s number one steel producer, to 143.3 million tons.

11-month figure

Some 36.7 million tons of crude steel were produced in Turkey in January-November, marking a 13.4% annual rise.

The country’s steel exports grew 21.9% year-on-year to 18 million tons, with imports almost having doubled, up 96.4% to 14.9 million tons in the first eleven months of last year.
