Turkish stocks up at midweek open

Turkey’s benchmark stock index opened at 1,808.67 points on Wednesday, up 24.11 points or 1.35% from the previous close.

 

Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index was down 1.66% to 1,784.56 points but still closed Tuesday at a new all-time high, with a daily trading volume of 49.7 billion Turkish liras ($4 billion).

 

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate climbed to 13.0320 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Wednesday, from 12.3790 at Tuesday’s close.

 

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate surged to 14.6470 from 13.9240, while one British pound traded for 17.4010 Turkish liras, compared to 16.6180 at the previous close.

 

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for $82.65 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Wednesday.
