Turkish stocks on high note at midweek open

Turkey’s benchmark stock index opened at 1,432.24 points on Wednesday, rising 2.4 points or 0.17% from the previous close.

At Tuesday’s close, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index was flat at 1,429.85 points with a daily trading volume of 15 billion Turkish liras ($1.6 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate climbed to 9.3250 as of 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) on Wednesday, compared to 9.3140 at Tuesday’s close.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 10.8640 versus 10.8660, and one British pound traded for 12.8750 Turkish liras, while it was at 12.8900 at the previous close.

One barrel of Brent crude oil sold for $84.33 as of 10 a.m. local time (0700GMT) on Wednesday.
