Turkish charity helps 1,500 African cataract patients in 2022

German-based Turkish-Muslim umbrella group, DITIB, has helped more than 1,000 people suffering from cataracts in 2022, according to an official.

“We have become a light for 1,500 people in Chad, Senegal, Nigeria and Kenya with the contributions of philanthropists this year,” Ozkan Guler, board member of the Essen DITIB State Regional Association, told Anadolu Agency about the condition that is common in Africa.

Guler, who also heads the Balve Mimar Sinan Mosque Association, said 500 people will undergo cataract surgery in 10 days in Kenya.

He said it feels very good to bring hope to people in poverty and mosque associations affiliated with DITIB started the cataract surgery campaign in Germany’s North Rhine-Westphalia (KRV) state.

DITIB, which is working on cataract surgery in Kenya, also distributed 2,500 food packages to those in need, said Goksal Ucuncu, the head of Ludenscheid DITIB Sultan Ahmet Mosque Association.
