Turkey’s unemployment rate sees small uptick in March, says TurkStat

The narrow unemployment rate was 10 percent and the broad unemployment rate was 21.8 percent, according to the official statistics. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Turkey increased by 4,000 people from February to March, reaching 3.508 million people, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat).

The unemployment rate stood at 10 percent, with the rate estimated at 8.1 percent for men and 13.8 percent for women.

The broad unemployment rate, which includes underemployment, potential labor force, and unemployed individuals, decreased by 1.6 percentage points from the previous month to 21.8 percent.

The employment rate remained steady at 48.2 percent, with 31.462 million people employed in March, an increase of 37,000 people from the previous month.

The labor force participation rate remained unchanged at 53.6 percent, with 34.97 million people in the labor force, an increase of 41,000 people from the previous month.

The youth unemployment rate, covering the 15-24 age group, increased by 0.7 percentage points from the previous month to 20.1 percent, with men and women estimated at 15.2 percent and 28.9 percent, respectively.

The weekly average actual working hours of those employed was 44.5 hours, a decrease of 0.2 hours from the previous month, according to TurkStat
