Trump to Attend Gulf Summit in Saudi Arabia Amid Middle East Tour

Riyadh: US President Donald Trump will participate in a summit with Gulf leaders during his visit to Saudi Arabia in May, as reported by Axios. The visit is scheduled from May 13 to 16 and includes trips to Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), focusing on defense, investment, and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.

According to Anadolu Agency, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman intends to invite leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to Riyadh for the summit on May 14. The GCC comprises the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and Qatar. An Arab official mentioned that, at present, there are no plans to invite other Arab leaders, though this could possibly change.

No official statements confirming or denying the summit have been released yet. During his visit, Trump is expected to engage in discussions regarding arms deals and economic partnerships. On Friday, the Pentagon announced the State Department’s approval of a potential $3.5 billion sale of AIM-120C-8 advanced medium-range air-to-air missiles to Saudi Arabia.
