Disgraced US attorney Michael Avenatti was sentenced to 14 years in prison Monday “for stealing millions of dollars from his clients” and tax fraud, according to the US Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California.
Avenatti — known for representing porn star Stormy Daniels, who alleged that she had an affair with former President Donald Trump long before he ran for office and received hush money before the 2016 presidential election — was also ordered to pay over $10 million in restitution to four clients and to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
US District Judge James Selna ordered that the 51-year-old suspended lawyer’s term of imprisonment run consecutive to sentences totaling five years previously imposed in two federal cases in New York.
The sentence handed down by Selna will begin after Avenatti completes the five-year prison term he is currently serving.
Avenatti, known for publicly feuding with Trump, pleaded guilty earlier this year to four counts of wire fraud and one count of tax fraud.
