Washington: US President Donald Trump is considering lifting sanctions on Trkiye and is eyeing the sale of advanced fighter jets to the country, including the fifth-generation F-35s.
According to Anadolu Agency, the potential move follows a recent conversation between Trump and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during which Trump showed interest in finalizing the sale of F-16 jets to Trkiye, a deal that has been under negotiation for some time.
Fox News reports that Trump is also open to the idea of selling F-35 jets to Trkiye if an agreement can be reached to render Trkiye’s Russian S-400 system inoperable. This dispute led to Trkiye’s suspension from the F-35 program.
In another significant development, President Trump announced the US Air Force’s progression with the world’s first sixth-generation fighter jet, designated as the F-47. Trump made this announcement at the White House alongside Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, revealing that Boeing has been chosen to construct the new aircraft.
Meanwhile, in Europe, German authorities have seized a Russian shadow fleet oil tanker, the Eventin, along with its cargo valued at over £40 million ($43.3 million). The Panama-flagged vessel, carrying 100,000 tons of crude oil from Russia, has been detained off the coast of Ruegen since January after it was deemed unseaworthy. Der Spiegel reported that German officials opted to confiscate the tanker and its cargo rather than allow the vessel to continue its journey to Egypt.
