Budapest: Trkiye is acting with a strategic perspective towards full EU membership, the country’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told his French counterpart on Thursday. Erdogan emphasized the importance of revitalizing Trkiye’s accession process during his meeting with Emmanuel Macron. The meeting took place in Hungary’s capital, Budapest, at the European Political Community Summit.
According to Anadolu Agency, Erdogan expressed Ankara’s expectation for the European Union to update its Customs Union with Trkiye and fulfill promises regarding visa liberalization for Turkish nationals. The discussions between the two leaders also covered various regional and global issues, highlighting the significance of diplomatic solutions.
Erdogan pointed out the ‘deep-rooted history’ between Ankara and Paris and stressed that advancing commercial and economic relations would be beneficial for both nations. The Directorate further reported that Erdogan highlighted the necessity for all countries to resolve international
tensions through peaceful diplomacy, referencing conflicts such as those between Ukraine and Russia, Israel and Palestine, and Israel and Lebanon.
