ANKARA: President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Tuesday that Trkiye is the leader in Europe in agricultural gross domestic product (GDP) and the world’s top producer of hazelnut, fig, cherry and apricot.
“Trkiye ranks fourth in the world in vegetable production and fifth in fruit production,” Erdogan said at an advisory board meeting of the Union of Turkish Agricultural Chambers (TZOB) for World Farmers’ Day.
Trkiye’s agricultural product surged to $69.2 billion in 2023 from $25.1 billion in 2002, thanks to the incentives and investments by the government, he noted.
Pointing to the growing demand for agricultural products due to a hike in population and tourist figures besides global crises, Erdogan noted that agricultural policies will be shaped and updated accordingly.
Erdogan highlighted that a comprehensive study has been initiated to minimize problems in the agriculture sector and planned agricultural production will be commenced.
