Ankara: Turkish National Defense Minister Yasar Guler has called on the PKK terrorist organization and its affiliated branches to disband and surrender their weapons unconditionally. Speaking at a ceremony commemorating the March 18 Canakkale Victory, Guler emphasized that the PKK and its branches, regardless of their locations or names, must immediately decide to disband and surrender their weapons.
According to Anadolu Agency, Guler stressed that any statements or actions contrary to this demand would be meaningless and ineffective. He highlighted that counterterrorism has been a priority for Trkiye for many years. The Turkish Armed Forces have consistently demonstrated determination in combating threats to national unity and integrity, successfully fulfilling their responsibilities.
Guler noted the PKK’s acknowledgment of being the most prolonged insurgency in the history of the Republic. He remarked that the organization’s realization that terrorism has reached its limits and has no future is significant, albeit delayed. He dismissed any notions of a ceasefire, stating that such discussions are out of the question.
The minister reiterated Ankara’s ultimate objective to eradicate terrorism and eliminate threats to Trkiye. He emphasized that there would be no tolerance for any attempts to sabotage or prolong the disarmament process, and a cautious and rational approach would be maintained.
The PKK, recognized as a terrorist organization by Trkiye, the US, and the EU, has waged a 40-year campaign resulting in over 40,000 deaths, including women, children, infants, and the elderly.
