Transfer deadline day sees major moves across European leagues

Major clubs across European leagues splashed out the cash on transfer deadline day to strengthen their squad for the 2021-2022 season.

A shock move was completed by Atletico Madrid when they signed their former player Antoine Griezmann on loan from Barcelona with an option to extend for a further year.

The French international star is currently Atletico Madrid’s all-time fifth top scorer by netting 133 goals in 257 matches, winning one Spanish Super Cup, one Europa League, and one UEFA Super Cup in his first spell in Madrid.

Barcelona replaced Griezmann with Dutch striker Luuk de Jong from Sevilla on loan with an option for a permanent transfer at the end of the season.

Another La Liga powerhouse Real Madrid completed the major deadline day move after acquiring Rennes’ promising midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.

The 18-year-old French wunderkind inked a six-year deal that will keep him at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium until June 30, 2027.

Defending Champions League champions Chelsea bolstered their squad on transfer deadline day by signing Spanish midfielder Saul Niguez from Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy.

Niguez enjoyed big victories at Atletico Madrid, where he lifted the La Liga title, Copa del Rey, Spanish Super Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and two Europa League trophies.

Tottenham Hotspur confirmed the signing of Brazilian right-back Emerson Royal from Barcelona on a five-year deal.

English Premier League side also announced the departure of Ivorian Serge Aurier after they mutually terminated his contract.
