Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis stated that he remains optimistic regarding Cyprus’ 2024 tourism performance, despite the fact that ‘it is not an easy year’, as he noted.
In statements in the House of Representatives and asked about the sector’s performance, Koumis noted that there was an increase in arrivals during the first two months of the year amounting to 1.6%.
But as he added, ‘it is not an easy year, but a year marked by challenges’ with Cyprus’s tourism industry affected by the situation in the Middle East, the economic crisis in Germany and the recession in Great Britain and mostly the aviation crisis.
“We remain optimistic because we had worked intensively before the crisis to increase availability” he said and added that most likely the sector’s performance will be similar to the previous year.
Regarding the ‘green’ fee to be imposed later this year, Tourism Deputy Minister said that it is not something that currently affects potential guests and noted he will get back to this after t
he consultation planned with the Ministry of Finance.
