Tottenham Hotspur players offer to reimburse fans after 6-1 loss to Newcastle

Tottenham Hotspur players on Tuesday offered to reimburse fans for their matchday tickets after the team's 6-1 loss to Newcastle last weekend.? "As a squad, we understand your frustration, your anger. It wasn't good enough. We know words aren't enough in situations like this but believe us, a defeat like this hurts," the Spurs squad said in a statement on Twitter. "We appreciate your support, home and away, and with this in mind we would like to reimburse fans with the cost of their match tickets from St James' Park," the statement added. "We know this does not change what happened on Sunday and we will give everything to put things right against Manchester United on Thursday evening when, again, your support will mean everything to us," it added. Newcastle United hammered visitors Tottenham 6-1 in an English Premier League match at St. James' Park on April 23. Tottenham were 5-0 down after 21 minutes of the match. English star Harry Kane scored for Spurs in the second half before Newcastle forward Callum Wilson added a sixth goal for the Magpies. Spurs on Monday fired their interim manager Cristian Stellini after the huge loss. Ryan Mason, a former Tottenham and Hull City midfielder, replaced Stellini. Fifth-place Tottenham have 53 points in 32 Premier League matches to trail six points behind Manchester United and Newcastle United, who are in the league's top four.? Tottenham's archrivals Arsenal have 75 points to lead the league before their visit to second-place Manchester City on Wednesday. Spurs will next face Manchester United in London on Thursday. The top four Premier League clubs automatically qualify for the UEFA Champions League groups.
