The only way forward is an immediate ceasefire Cyprus’ MFA stresses on October 7th anniversary

The only way forward is through reaching an immediate ceasefire that would pave the way for broader de-escalation in both Gaza but also in Lebanon, Cyprus Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed in a message for the 7th October anniversary of Hamas attacks in Israel a year ago.

In a post on platform X, the Ministry noted that ‘October 7, 2023 was marked by terror and the blatant disregard for human life and dignity by Hamas, as it pursued its murderous rampage in communities within Israel.’

It added that ‘our thoughts today are with the loved ones of every victim so brutally massacred on that Saturday morning and ‘our prayers are with every single one of the 101 hostages still held by Hamas’ for whom ‘we will continue to call for their unconditional release’.

Furthermore it recalled that as President Christodoulides noted ‘out of the tragedy and suffering of the last year, let us exert every effort to ensure there is a lifeline to peace’ and indicated that ‘the only way forward allowing for the suffering to s
ubside is through reaching an immediate ceasefire that would pave the way for broader de-escalation in both Gaza but also in Lebanon, that would allow for a surge in humanitarian aid’.

‘A ceasefire that will revitalise the political path for a durable two-state solution’ the Ministry added, underlining that ‘this is the only way to secure a better and stable future for the Middle East and our region as a whole’ and that ‘Cyprus will continue actively supporting all efforts to this end’.
