Italy's last remaining contenders in the men's singles at the US Open have crashed out in the last 16, with 22-year-old Matteo Arnaldi losing 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 to holder and world number one Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner going down 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 to Germany's Alexander Zverev after almost five hours of battle.
Sinner's defeat means he misses out on the chance to get revenge on Spaniard Alcaraz for the loss he suffered in an epic match in the quarterfinals of the tournament last year. (ANSA).
