Statement by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hami Aksoy on a Question about the French President Macron’s Statement on Reminding the Commemoration Day for the 1915 Events in France

The French officials, including the President of France, where the events of 1915 are legitimate debate with their legal, historical and academic dimensions, are described at every level.

Despite this, it is clear that the French President Macron has tried to fulfill the promises of the French Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights, and ignoring historical facts and hoping to get votes from Armenian voters.

Unaware of the Ottoman history, a politician is unhindered by the fact that he does not respect French and European law and takes a unilateral attitude on the issue of personal political interest, which is extremely sensitive to Turks.

An objective approach is needed to understand all aspects of the fall of the Ottoman Empire, where more than 500,000 Muslims were massacred by Armenian rebels. Attaching great importance to the enlightenment of the date of this painful period of Turkey's proposal to establish a Joint History Commission is still valid.

We do not have any lessons from the politicians who have arrogant and basic history knowledge of France, who we know with the atrocities they did in Anatolia during the War of Independence, the massacres in Algeria and the responsibility in the Rwandan genocide.
